About us

Mount Vernon Shops is the creation of John Frantz. It started in 2004 while John was employed by Custom Model Railroads in Baltimore, a stones throw up the Jones Falls valley from where the Northern Central Railway's original Mount Vernon Shops was located.

Since debuting into the model industry with laser-cut acrylic structure kits, John has since moved into creating accurate decals in all major scales of the model railroad hobby. Additionally, John has created stenciling for the restoration of full-size railroad equipment as well. 

Born in 1984 and growing up in south-central Pennsylvania John has a love for the railroads of the mid-Atlantic region. Not only does John produce these accurate decals for sale, but also he uses them in his own model work. So, he clearly understands the needs of today's prototype driven modeling accuracy.
