General Electric asked the PRR to design a flatcar for a large turbine load. In response, they built a depressed center well with a 250 Ton capacity, using the trucks from an F38 which supports the car and load on four 6-wheel trucks. The car was completed by the Altoona shops in October 1954 as a single car number 470250.
This sheet has enough data to do 1 car. Note that the Hand brake wheel bracket also had its own keystone applied to it. The Shadow Keystone emblem will need a piece of styrene or brass sheet cut to a size of 30 scale inches square. There are four different reweigh locations (P50: Enola, P57: Altoona, P62: Hollidaysburg, P341: Conway) with multiple reweigh dates into the early 1960’s. Note that the decals are broken up based on the prototype pictures
The F40 has been imported by Rail Classics in Brass and is available as a 3D printed kit by Erik Ernest at earnesttrains.com or on Ebay as bajadezert.
For painting this flatcar in this scheme, the entire car including underbody is to be painted in Freight Car Color. The trucks are painted black.
